In 2012, there were roughly 4 million Botox procedures done, making it the top non-surgical cosmetic procedure that year. Despite its popularity, we would like to emphasize to our clients here in our Miami dermatology practice that Botox is not for everyone. It is important to understand when to have Botox and when not to.
By and large, Botox works by paralyzing the muscles and stopping them from contracting which causes wrinkling in the superficial skin. Currently, it is primarily used to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, and furrows in the forehead. Furthermore, it should be noted that Botox works with “active” signs of aging, which means it works for lines and wrinkles that has recently formed.
When Not to Use Botox
If your main concern involves firmly-established skin aging problems, dermal fillers may be more ideal than Botox. Dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Sculptra works well in plumping your lips, softening facial creases, and filling in shallow contours.
