Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis, is a hereditary disease in individuals whose family members suffer from asthma, hay fever or eczema. Red, scaly and itchy patches can appear all over the body. People with eczema are usually diagnosed with it when they are babies or young children, however it can start in adulthood, but that is less common. Most people have eczema on their elbows or behind their knees but it can appear on the face, especially the cheeks and chin or in the scalp, chest or back. They can also have it on the scalp, trunk (chest and back), and outer arms and legs. When eczema is diagnosed in young children they tend to have the symptoms lessen as they grow older.
